Students of the international M.Sc. programme Environmental Governance organize the Forum on Environmental Governance as part of their training at the University of Freiburg.

Students of the international M.Sc. programme Environmental Governance organize the Forum on Environmental Governance as part of their training at the University of Freiburg. The aim of each sitting of the Freiburg Forum on Environmental Governance is to foster discussion and to plant the seeds of sustainable development and wise leadership in a new generation of global citizens, namely students, junior staff from NGOs, administrations, enterprises, but also senior personnel and the wider public. The 2007 Forum topic, the role of individual leadership in environmental governance, will be developed with personal interpretations of world renowned advocates from the fields of policy, business, civil society and science: Vandana Shiva / India (Managing Trustee of the Navdanya Trust, Winner of the Alternative Nobel Prize 1993), Elinor Ostrom / USA (Professor of Political Science, founder of the institutional approach to public choice theory), Sir Mark Moody-Stuart / UK (Chairman of the Foundation for UN Global Compact, Chairman of Anglo American plc and former Chairman of Royal Dutch/Shell) and H.E. Ambassador Raúl Estrada Oyuela (Director of Environmental Affairs at Argentina's Foreign Ministry, considered the “godfather” of the Kyoto protocol 1997) will share their views on the meaning of leadership in the context of environmental governance. A poster exhibit featuring outstanding examples of individual leadership from the students’ respective home countries will properly frame the Forum.
